Best Baitcasting Reel or Spinning Reel

Which fishing reel at Amazon or Ebay is best for you personally is the key question that you have to ask yourself. It seems we have gone full circle with what reel are being used today.

When I was a kid, 50 years ago, I started fishing with an old baitcasting reel that belonged to my father. Talk about getting used to using a baitcaster without all the new technology. No buttons, no ball bearings and only your thumb to stop the line from a huge backlash. Baitcasting reel is a whole lot easier to use today yet they still can get some ugly backlashes in them.

Yet, I digress to the good olden days, back to what reel is best for you. Personally, I use a Daiwa spinning reel and a Shimano baitcasting reel and like them both. Sometimes it depends on what and how you plan on fishing them, but there again, that is a personal decision. The obvious answer to what reel to use is that the spinning reel is much easier to fish with. So if you do not have the desire or persistence to learn how to use the baitcasting reel at then stick with the spinning reel. However, if you take the time to learn how to cast the baitcaster you will fall in love with it. Rest assured it will take a lot if practice and you will learn how to untangle nasty backlashes as well as learn how to change the line that you cannot untangle. Therefore I would recommend using a cheaper line to start with and then when you have mastered the baitcasting reel get some good quality fishing line.

If you do decide to go with a baitcasting reel make sure you get one of good quality. An inexpensive reel will cause your language to become off-colour and will be more of a headache than it is worth. The Shimano Baitcasting Reel is really my favourite baitcaster and they come in a wide range of styles and costs but they are all quality reel. There are certainly other great brands out there as well and one of the keys is to make sure it is a casting reel and not a trolling reel.

Bottom line to the question as to what reel is the best baitcasting reels for fishing, baitcasting reel or spinning reel? Both work great and I would recommend having at least one of each and most of us have a few of each and tend to pick up our favourite when it is time to catch that lunker bass waiting in the weeds.
