Shimano Reels: Jigging With Shimano Reels

What is jigging?

The word jigging refers to the practice of fishing with a jig. In jigging, the fishing lure moves with a jerky motion vertically through the water, instead of horizontally, as with conventional lures. The lure, or jig, is made of a lead sinker. This is why a jig is also known as a “leadhead.” The jig has a hook molded to one end to trap the fish. This arrangement is covered with a brightly colored, soft body to attract the fish. Jigs are widely used in both saltwater and freshwater fishing.

Parts of a jig: head

The head of a jig comes in many different colors and shapes. The heads may be round, fish shaped, or conical. The weight of the head varies from 1/80th of an ounce to nearly a pound depending on the kind of fish that is being lured. Jig heads may also come with a weed guard to protect the jig when fishing in murky waters.

Parts of a jig: body

The body of jig is shaped to resemble grubs, frogs, fishes, paddle tails, lizards, or insects. The body is normally made out of rubber or silicone. The colors of these jigs can range from bright yellow to transparent brown, with silver and red flakes. They may also be decorated with dyed whitetail deer tail hair, Chenille, feathers, hairs, and other natural materials.

Shimano reels for jigging

Shimano is one of the most respected manufacturers of jigging rigs. In fact, the butterfly jigging system was developed by Shimano in Japan in the 1990’s. Some of the Shimano reels that are suitable for jigging include the many variants of the ever popular Shimano Torsa series.

Shimano Torsa TS 16

This Shimano reel has nine bearings, a gear ratio of 5.8:1 and a line capacity of 450yards of 16lb fishing line. It also comes in a narrower variant, the Shimano Torsa 16N, which has a line capacity of 270yards of 16lb fishing line.

Shimano Torsa TS 20

The Shimano Torsa 20 has nine bearings, a gear ratio of 5.8:1 and is available in a line capacity of 420yards of 16lb fishing line.

Shimano Torsa TS 30

This Shimano reel also has nine bearings and a gear ratio of 5.8:1. It is available in a line capacity of 350yards of 30lb fishing line.

Shimano Torsa TS 40

The Shimano Torsa TS 40 is the granddaddy of jigging reels. This heavy duty Shimano reel has a gear ratio of 4.9:1 and is ably supported by nine Shimano bearings. It comes in a line capacity of 320yards of 40lb fishing line.

Baitrunner: The Shimano Reel For Getting the Big Fish

Going after the big fish? Bring the Baitrunner with you! Anyone who’s ever gone fishing knows that Shimano reels are the fishing reels to bring on any fishing trip. And anyone who’s really into serious fishing knows that the Baitrunner is the Shimano reel for offshore fishing.

Not only is the Baitrunner a beauty, it also has all the innovations to make you look good as well. The Shimano Baitrunner is an offshore spinning reel similar to the fixed spool reel. Its main difference lies in its baitrunner feature, which lets you bait fish with a closed bail while you keep the reel in total free spool.

The Baitrunner’s waterproof drag is so easy to use. Just turn the notch clockwise to increase drag strength or counter-clockwise to decrease drag strength. To maximize the drag strength, tighten the notch fully. Give the handle a little twist and the normal drag you have preset engages. The secondary drag system lets your bait float freely and more naturally. The free spool tension can be adjusted using the control knob. Switch the Baitrunner lever to the on position to put the reel in total free spool. This secondary drag system design of the Shimano Baitrunner has never been matched by any other reel. Turn the Tension Dial to the left to decrease free spool tension or to the right to increase the tension. When you have already fished your bait in controlled free spool, you can set the hook by just turning the handle. The Baitrunner will immediately shift to drag on. This way, the drag you preset earlier will take over as the fish is put in. The Baitrunner can be shifted manually by switching the lever to the Drag On position. The Waterproof Drag is sealed against the saltwater spray and wind. The Super Stoper II removes backplay. The Power Roller III decreases line twist. And the Dyna Balance eliminates wobble when the fish is retrieved. This stabilizes the line, making it easier for you to control your catch. The Baitrunner also has 3 Anti-Rust Ball Bearings (A-RB) made from stainless steel with ten times more protection from corrosion than ordinary stainless steel. Aside from these 3 A-RB, this Shimano reel also has a roller bearing that can be switched on or off to allow some degree of backreeling.

Compared to the other Shimano reels, the Baitrunner and Socorro are the only Shimano offshore spinning reels with graphite frames, sideplate, and rotor. This distinctive feature makes the Baitrunner a light yet tough reel, optimal for offshore fishing where the catch is unpredictable. The Baitrunner also has a unique flat T-type handle rubber grip that is reversible. Particularly designed to adapt to and assist both left-handed and right-handed anglers, this Shimano reel’s handle is comfortable, flexible, and easy to adjust.

With the Baitrunner, you can go after albacore, marlin, swordfish, and even a great white shark. The Baitrunner is the fishing reel for both fresh and saltwater fishing. It is engineered to give you years of reliable performance and enjoyment.

Going fishing? Get a Shimano Baitrunner and get all the big fish. Go to Sea Isle Tackle, the best source for all your fishing essentials.

It has been weeks since you have planned this trip. Your holiday was finally approved, and your wife and kids have their own agenda and gave you permission to be on your own. So you wake up early next day, making sure to bring everything you need such as all your fishing gears, a day's worth of food and water, a small family picture tucked in your shirt pocket and most important of all, your Baitrunner. You have been waiting for this day for too long, and it has finally come at last.

Taking a deep breath as you walk out the door and smelling the humid air of the early morning, you head for the car and then off to the perfect fishing spot down the lake. You have been dreaming of having the best fishing holiday and having your Shimano Baitrunner in tow, you assure yourself that you can make that dream a reality.

Shimano Reels and Baitrunner

Shimano is a Japanese company that has spearheaded the creation of superb quality bicycle equipments and other related products. Since entrepreneur Shozaburo Shimano founded it in 1921 in Osaka, Japan, it has gone on to become one of today's biggest manufacturers of sporting equipment. Starting out as producing top-class cycling equipments, they have since branched out and became renowned in the world of recreational fishing by creating their Shimano Reels and Baitrunner. They instantly reeled in thousands of approving nods from professional and novice recreation fishermen alike.

Shimano reels, along with their Baitrunner, are recognized worldwide as some of the best quality reels that you could use and are highly recommended by the experts in the field of recreational fishing.

What Makes Shimano Baitrunners Special?

If you were used to using the Classic Baitrunner then you would be surprised at the marked difference the Shimano Baitrunner offers. A baitrunner is normally used by fishing aficionados. A baitrunner, upon castoff, works by concurrently lifting the bait giving freedom to the fishing line to run off the spool. It then returns to normal once the fishing line is retrieved. The Shimano Baitrunner is among the most well used baitrunner in the recreational fishing world. All three models, the 3500, 4500 and 6500, all contain different gear ratios and line capacities depending on your needs and specifications.

The three Baitrunner models are crafted with elegant graphite frames and matching side plates. The 3500 and 4500 rotors are made from the same material while the 6500 Baitrunner model sports an aluminum rotor. Apart from that, the Baitrunner B- Series boasts anti-rust bearings of up to 10 times resistant to the effects of corrosion, making it not only beautiful but also durable. Other features of the series such as the Super Stopper and the Power Roller III also make the Shimano Baitrunner perfect for the fishing enthusiast. The updated Shimano Baitrunner makes your fishing experience so much easier and wonderfully efficient. Whether you are going out into that small lake or heading towards the open ocean for big game, it definitely will not back down from your challenge.

If you want to find out which Baitrunner model from Shimano is best for you, then head on to Sea Isle Tackle. You will definitely find what you have been looking for in there.

BaitRunner: The Top-of-the-Line Shimano Reel

Author: Robert Feuring

Your favorite part of the week is the weekend (whose favorite part of the week isn't the weekend anyway?). But your case is different from most people. You can already feel the spray of the water. You can already imagine the taste of the salt of the open sea. And the sense of great adventure is unwaveringly beckoning you to another weekend of fishing heaven. Yep, it's the lifestyle and the choices that set you apart from the pack.

Even before the weekend comes, your gear has been prepared and you're itching to try out your new Shimano BaitRunner. You bought yourself a B series after having been a very avid BaitRunner Classic user. You had to choose among 3 models. A 3500, a 4500, and a 6500. You picked the one that was the best match for the style of fishing that you have. And yes, you recall that it was an easy choice. And easy it was, with all the new design innovations and superb engineering. But Bob, your lifelong neighbor and fishing buddy is skeptical about the BaitRunner's features. So you set out to prove him wrong. And prove him wrong you did with the unbelievable catch you made.

Now Bob is a believer. Who wouldn't be awed with a Shimano Reel that has a graphite frame, a graphite side plate, a graphite rotor, a diecast aluminum spool, flat T type handle grip, a waterproof drag, anti-rust bearings, a dyna balance, a power roller III, a power handle torpedo knob, 3 + 1 stainless steel ball bearings, an automatic strike alarm and a non-corrosive graphite construction?

You showed him the BaitRunner features. He could not believe how easy it was to change the front drag setting. (Turn the notch clockwise to increase drag strength. To reach the maximum drag, just tighten the notch. Turn the notch counter-clockwise and the drag strength is decreased.) When you adjusted the BaitRunner Tension Setting, you just flipped the BaitRunner to the On position and you set the reel in a total free spool. Adjustments were made with the different types of bait you had. The sleek look of the Shimano BaitRunner is not just its source of beauty, you'd have to count in the smooth functions. You had it easy because you just had to turn the tension dial all the way to the left and you got the lightest free spool tension. You turned the dial to the right and the free spool tension was increased. You wanted to fish your bait effectively in a controlled free spool and you just had to flip the BaitRunner's lever to the BaitRunner On position. To set the hook, you just had to turn the handle forward and the BaitRunner immediately shifted to Drag On.

You've never had a baitrunner reel function quite like the Shimano BaitRunner. Now, you tell Bob and all the rest of your fishing buddies that to get the best deals for their Shimano BaitRunner purchases, Sea Isle Tackle is the place to go.

BaitRunner: The Supreme Shimano Reel

Author: Rob Fuering

Let's face it. You go out on a fishing trip and you think you have everything ready. You have your gear with you, and you set everything up pretty much in the right way. Still, the fish are not coming. You check and recheck everything, still, nothing. So what's wrong? How come others are reeling in the fish? What's working for them and not for you? So you glance at the guy next to you and you notice the difference. Yep, it's a BaitRunner. A Shimano BaitRunner (oh yes, you can turn green with envy now). Not only is the design beautifully sleek, its engineering is top of the line.

Yet again, Shimano has outdone itself with this new line of reels. Shimano is a Japanese multinational company that manufactures cycling components and fishing and snowboarding equipment. They have produced top-of-the-line products for these three sports. In making sport fishing gear, Shimano continues to be the forerunner. They have always been ahead of the pack. You only have to look at the more than 3,000 world records that were caught with Shimano equipment to become a believer. The Baitrunner is just another proof of this supremacy over other brands of reels.

A BaitRunner reel is similar to a fixed spool reel. The only difference is that with a BaitRunner, it is possible to bait fish with a closed bail while keeping the reel in total free spool. The Shimano Baitrunner has a one-of-a-kind secondary drag system. This allows you to feed out your line in a tension-controlled free spool. So whether you are fishing from the pier or from a boat, you have the advantage of full management over the fish.

One of the best features of the Shimano Baitrunner is the special grooved roller design. Its engineering ensures that loops and twists are kept to a minimum by allowing the line to evenly wrap on the spool. You would not have to worry about line tangles anymore. For instant hooksetting power, the Baitrunner has a one-way roller bearing that removes all back play on the handle.

Shimano BaitRunner spinning reels come in three different models all carefully crafted to withstand the demands your fishing requirements. You have your own unique style and needs. So you check out the BaitRunner that would best suit you. You have to know the basics for you to make the right choice. The 3500, 4500, and 6500 are the latest innovations from the classic Shimano BaitRunner reel series. What's great about these is that all three models can be used for both salt and freshwater fishing. And the good news doesn't stop there. You can choose the best Baitrunner reel to match your fishing style because each of these three models have different line capacities.

Convinced yet? There's more. The Shimano BaitRunner, like all Shimano reels, is easy to maintain and was designed to give a maximum output performance for years. You're sure to get your money's worth and a lifetime of great fishing experiences.

So check out the Shimano BaitRunner now at the Sea Isle Tackle, your ultimate source of big game fishing gear.
