Lake Lanier Crappie Fishing

Author: Daniel Eggertsen

Lake Lanier can be found in the state of Georgia and is fed by the Chestatee River. Lake Lanier holds 38,000 acres of water and has a shoreline that stretches 692 miles long. It is sometimes referred to as Lake Sidney Lanier and it is an excellent place to go crappie fishing. One reason anglers have such great success here is because the water is perfect for catching crappie. This species of fish can be spooked very easily in clear water and so the stained water of Lake Lanier is a perfect environment for catching them.

Lake Lanier is one of Georgia's main attractions and the crappie can be found mostly on the northern end of this lake. As the temperature of the water begins to warm up you will find the crappie in the shallow water located around docks, brush and other structures. You will get the best results when you fish around areas with plenty of shade. You will also find them grouped together near and in the major bends of the lake.

Many times you can search for docks that already have rod holders attached and you will know where other anglers have had good luck in the past. After a good rain the water in Lake Lanier is even darker than normal making it that much easier to catch the crappie. Many anglers that fish this lake regular say they have the best results when they use small minnows and jigs to fish for the crappie.

How to Catch Crappie in Lake Lanier
Catching crappie in Lake Lanier is fairly easy if you know where to look. The north end of the lake usually produces the best results when fishing for crappie. This is partly because the water is darker here so the number of crappie is greater in this area than in other part of the lake. The more abundant the crappie the better results you can expect.

Crappie is what anglers call line sensitive fish and so you will get the best results when you use four pound test line to fish for them. Of course, if you are fishing really close to structures you may want to go a little heavier to avoid breakage of your line from the structures. You should also use an ultralight fishing rod because these will help you feel when the crappie takes the bait. Spincasting and mini-baitcasting reels are the most popular ones to use.

Even though it seems like crappie are able to distinguish colors the water will distort the color of the lure you are using. Things like how deep the fish are located in the water, the temperature of the water and how clear the water is will all affect the color of the lures used. Many anglers have reported having the best luck when they use white, red or chartreuse lure for fishing in Lake Lanier. If you believe there is a school of crappie located in the area you are fishing but they are not taking your bait, try a different color to see if you get better results. The best weight to use seems to be ones weighing 1/32 ounce.

Gifts for the Fly Fisherman

Author: Steve W Sharpe

Are you looking for the perfect gift for the fly fisher in your life? There are many options you have when giving a gift to the person who loves fly fishing. Some of them can be expensive, but they don’t have to be. You can choose a gift that your fly fisher will love no matter what your budget is.

One option is to get them a new rod and reel. This is going to be one of the more expensive options as reels can run anywhere from $200 to $1,000. Buying a rod can be a very personal decision for people who love fly fishing, so if you’re going to go this route with your gift, you’ll need to do your research.

You could purchase a gift certificate to your local sporting goods or fishing store. This is a great choice for the fly fisherman as then they can pick out what they want or need. While some people feel gift certificates are impersonal, they can be a very welcome gift to the fly fisher.

Consider getting a nice basket and filling it up with various fly fishing supplies. You can stock it with various flies, lines, and tools that your fly fisher can use during their fishing trips. If you’re not sure what types of flies and such to stock the basket with, just ask the clerk at the store, or simply go hog wild and pick out a nice variety.

There are other beautiful gifts you can get as well. People who love fly fishing have a natural love of the outdoors and everything “fishy”. The organization Trout Unlimited has a great selection of fly fishing gifts including mugs, glasses, shirts, and hats with fish pictures on them. This can be another great gift idea.

Fly fishing apparel is just as important to the fly fisherman as the equipment they need. Fly fishing requires waders, vests, and boots. A good fly fishing vest can make a very thoughtful gift. Most fly fishermen claim you can never have too much equipment. Even if your fly fisherman has a vest, a new one might be just the ticket for a good gift.

When giving a fly fishing gift, use your imagination. There are all sorts of great gift ideas that can please even the most experienced fly fisherman. Ask him or her what they are wishing for and then fill that wish. You have lots of options. When giving a gift, it’s the thought that counts, of course, but when you consider all that’s involved in the sport of fly fishing, you’re sure to find a gift that’s more than appreciated!

Fishing Game: Nature's Playground

Author: Nicky Pilkington

If all men measured up to the standards of true sportsmanship, there would be no need for game, fish, and forestry laws. Neither would there be so much need for the laws that regulate human affairs in general.

But, in the fishing game, it is the true sportsman, with a love for the great outdoors, a wholesome respect for the welfare of others, and consideration for living and growing things, who sets the good examples for the youth to follow.

In reality, fishing games differ a lot from the other types of games that man has come to know. A fishing game is not a mere reflection of the activity itself but more of the love for fishing.

In fishing games, the angler does not go hunting or fishing only to gain the privilege of boasting over slaughter or material gain. He loves the lightning-like flash of the trout, the leap of the bass or muskie, the tug on the line, the whir of the reel, the thrill of battle with some "denizens" of the deep, and the companionship of other true sportsmen.

The Concept of Fishing Games

The most common type of fishing game is known as the "offshore game fishing." In this type of game fishing, the anglers aim for the big lean fishes like the marlins and the tunas and the fishing is done in the sea.

Offshore game fishing is usually conducted as one type of recreational activity. Though, there are instances wherein this type of fishing game is also employed in competitions like the sports fishing.

Because of the energy being utilized in this type of recreational activity, offshore game fishing usually requires the biggest fishing boats. These fishing boats generally range from 30 to 50 feet in length.

The object of the game is to reel the fish in once it is properly hooked on the line. This can be a daunting task since the fish, especially if it is a big one, will have the tendency to pull away from the boat. The challenge is to reel the fish in while keeping the fishing line maintained on its specified tension.

The fishing game is not more of a competition for a true angler. Whenever they are doing this kind of activity as part of the game, what the angler really wants is to get in touch with nature, to breathe the clean, pure air, and muse in solitude in the wilds of nature's playground.

Hence, in fishing games like offshore game fishing, the anglers like to play the game in strict accordance with the rules of reason and fairness at the same time conserve the value of fishes in the community.

Lake Erie steelhead

Author: Capt. Tony Denslow

The Ohio Division of Wildlife deserves a big pat on the back for its successful efforts to bring quality steelhead fishing to Lake Erie and its tributaries.

Take a look at the photos. All of these fish were caught in streams from Vermilion, OH to the Pennsylvania line last fall and over the winter. Combine the stream and lake action and it's clear that Ohio now offers a very nice trout fishery based on an aggressive stocking program. The lake and most of the streams are too warm and unsuited for natural reproduction.

The good fishing has spawned growth in the guiding business, too. Stream guides report increasing interest in steelhead fishing and they are seeing more anglers going it alone on the rivers. Jim Chamberlin is one such guide. He provided these photos to Lake Erie News Reel.

Jim has been guiding for several years and fishes most of the rivers from Vermilion to Conneaut. "I am fishing all over the place from the Vermilion River to the Chagrin River.  So far the Chargrin has yielded the best action per hour. The Vermilion has been holding its own and has been very spotty, they are there one day and gone the next," he said.

Chamberlin's guide rates are $225 for 1/2 day for one person and $275 for two. The full day rate is $375 for two anglers. He can be reached at 248-522-6883. It's unlikely that steelhead fishing will overtake walleye and perch in popularity but it is another great opportunity for Ohio anglers.

What intrigues me about the steelhead fishery is that it is man made. This expertise will come in handy if the walleye population doesn't start growing. We've had some pretty bad hatches in recent years and the lake-wide population is now estimated at around 18 million, down from 60-70 million back in the mid-1980s.

If another poor hatch is recorded this summer it's likely there will be a public push to start stocking walleyes in the lake, the fish preferred by most fishermen. It was successful back in the 1970s.

Advantages of Playing Video Slots

Author: Jacob Dunner

Video slots are becoming highly popular in the present times, with the old types of conventional slot machines being upgraded as online video slots. The advantage is that these video slots could be played from anywhere and at any time. Even though the online slots are somewhat similar in operation to the traditional slots where the handle is pulled to make three in a row, the video slots are much easier to play and provide lot of fun.

Previously the slot games were limited only to casinos and luxury yacht cruises. However, the Internet had made it possible for people to play this popular game from the comforts of their homes, in whichever corner of the world the live. The online video slots had been designed with stunning graphics and several winning combinations that create a terrific impression on the player. Since the video slots come in several types, you would be able to choose the video slot that suits your taste and talent. All these technical improvements help people play the online video slots with the least discomfort and have an enjoyable time whenever they are free of career or household work.

Another advantage with video slots is that many providers of such video slots offer lucrative and generous bonuses, along with additional cash awards for more time spent on playing these video slots. As such, the chances of earning more money are higher in the case of video slots, compared to the conventional slots. For most of the online video slots on the Internet, registration is free and a new player sign up bonus is offered. Moreover, you could even play some of the video slot games free of cost in several sites.

The video slots vary widely and you would be able to win anything like a few cents or even millions of dollars. The biggest money making opportunities exist in progressive jackpot slots. In these video slots, the jackpot amount increases progressively. The competition would be higher and the opponents would be tough persons but you could win large amounts if you have luck combined with your talent. Even if you had not tried the online video slots until now, it is time you tried your hand in them and check up your luck. The more time you spend on the video slots, the more are the chances of your winning higher amounts. Go ahead and have an enjoyable and relaxing period that could also be monetarily beneficial.

Hawaii Fishing on the Big Island: An Opportunity to Land Some Whoppers!

Author: Hudd Hassell

If you are gearing up for a deep sea Hawaii fishing trip, the Big Island offers some of the best waters in Hawaii for big game. From Mahi Mahi to black, blue or striped marlin, your odds of landing the big guys couldn’t get much better than this.

Kona Waters Hold Many State Records for Largest Fish
It’s astonishing, really, to look at the list of record breaking fish pulled out of the Big Island’s west-side waters around Kona. The complete list is too long to cover comprehensively in this article, but some of the highlights include:

A 1,205 lb black marlin caught on an 80-lb test line after a grueling 12 ½ hour struggle to pull it in. (Believed to be the largest black ever caught in the Northern Hemisphere!)

A 1,207 lb, 12 foot long Mako shark caught with a 3 lb skipjack tuna for bait on a 130 lb test line.

A 503 lb broadbill swordfish caught with a handline.

A 228 lb big eye tuna (Thunnus obesus) caught around a C-buoy and a 73.5 lb Albacore tuna caught in 700 fathoms of water using bait and a Shimano 130-class reel.

An 82 lb Mahi Mahi (Dorado), a 145.5 lb Amberjack, and a 150 lb Moray eel speared while diving in 80 ft of water!

Ok, Ok, I’m excited! How do I get on a boat?!
Interestingly enough, a decent number of these whoppers were actually landed on charter boats – which is likely to be the kind of boat you’ll be on if you are just visiting Hawaii for a fishing trip.

Because of record-breaking monsters like these and because the fishing is generally good all year around, Hawaii fishing draws people from all over the world. The plus side of this is that you’ll find no shortage of options when looking for a boat to take you onto the water.  The drawback is that you’ll have to book early and plan on spending a pretty penny if you are the kind of person who wants a private touring experience.

Then again, the chance to fight it out and have bragging rights for bringing in a record breaking fish makes every dime spent more than worthwhile considering the privilege of getting out onto the Hawaiian blue.

Plus, many charter boats provide all the equipment and food you need, meaning that the only thing you have to worry about on your Hawaii fishing trip is what you’re going to do with that monster once you reel him in!
